Most of the work we do in Poway comes from someone who has had us out before, or from a neighbor of theirs. That is the only marketing this trade really has.
The wine cabinet had been drifting a couple of degrees warm on the top zone for months and I kept nudging the setting. It was the seal along the top of the hinge side, and the door had sagged a little under the weight of that custom panel. Not the disaster I expected.
Rattle behind the lower grille on the undercounter drawers. Came out the next morning, emptied the whole cavity, and there was a nest and chewed insulation in there off the shop end of the property. Fast, tidy, explained what he was doing.
Cubes had been coming out small and dished in the top for weeks and I assumed the ice maker was finished. He put a gauge on the inlet valve instead of guessing, asked about our well and the softener, and it turned out the mold was never filling all the way.
What people actually comment on
Almost never the repair itself — a working refrigerator is what was expected. What comes up again and again is the part around it: that the arrival window was real, that the price quoted was the price charged, and that the technician explained what had failed rather than presenting a total.
The second thing is that the appliance was serviced where it stood. Built-in units are fitted into cabinetry, often with stone worktops and panelled doors around them, and dragging one out to look at it risks more than the fault ever did. On this equipment the condenser is reached through the grille and the sealed system is designed for access in place.
Repairs that did not happen
Some of these reviews are for visits where nothing was replaced: a door seal reseated, a drain cleared, a filter that had never been changed. It is worth saying plainly that a diagnosis which ends in "this does not need a part" is a successful visit, and it is charged as a diagnosis rather than a repair.
