Ice Maker Repair in Poway
Ice makers get condemned on the wrong evidence more often than any other component in this trade. The cubes sitting in the bin are the diagnosis. Outdoor ice machines here have a harder job than anything indoors and they get asked to do it at the worst possible moment. The cabinet sits in a masonry surround that has been absorbing sun since ten in the morning and goes on radiating it long after the sun has moved off, it breathes through a grille at ankle height where decomposed granite dust and leaf litter collect, and the day it is expected to run flat out is the hottest Saturday of the year with a house full of people. Long water lines and short cubes
If the bin never quite fills in summer
Long supply runs are normal on these lots and they change what the machine is working with. Water headed for an island machine or an outdoor kitchen travels a long way from the shutoff, often through a slab or an unconditioned space, and by July it arrives at the valve considerably warmer than it did in winter. Warmer inlet water means a longer freeze cycle, fewer harvests per day, and a bin that never quite fills, and nothing at all is broken. Pressure drops over distance too, so a valve that is entirely adequate on a short kitchen line can be marginal at the far end of a long small-diameter run, which shows up as a mold that fills a little short every single cycle.
Cubes had been coming out small and dished in the top for weeks and I assumed the ice maker was finished. He put a gauge on the inlet valve instead of guessing, asked about our well and the softener, and it turned out the mold was never filling all the way.
Roasts wanted an extra half hour and the browning had gone uneven, so I thought the Wolf was on its way out. He left a probe sitting at rack level, showed me how far under it was actually running, and changed the sensor. First person to ask whether we were on propane.
Upright freezer in the shop building frosted straight back up a week after I chipped it clear, and there was water sitting on the slab under it. The drain had been thawing and refreezing with the swing we get out there. He traced the whole line rather than poking at it.
