Frequently asked questions

The questions we are actually asked on the phone in Poway, answered the way we would answer them there.

Questions

Answers before you call

Do you cover all of Poway, or only the 92064 side of it?

Both city zip codes, 92064 and 92074, and the same route carries on into 92127, 92128 and 92129. That means Green Valley, the Heritage streets and the light commercial suites along Poway Road, plus Rancho Bernardo, Scripps Ranch, Carmel Mountain Ranch and Sabre Springs. We also run out to Escondido, San Marcos, Ramona and Valley Center.

Will you work on the refrigerator in the garage, or the freezer out in the shop?

Yes, a big share of the work here. In August a closed garage runs far above the ambient any domestic cabinet was rated for, so the condenser never recovers and it barely stops. In January the reverse: a combination refrigerator-freezer senses the fresh food compartment, which holds by itself, so the compressor never runs and the freezer thaws. Say where it lives when you call.

How soon can somebody come out, and do you really answer at night?

The line is answered at any hour, seven days a week, and same-day service happens where the schedule allows rather than as a promise. What decides whether this takes one visit or two is usually not the diary but whether the right part is already on the van, which is why we ask what the freezer is doing before anything else.

Does a built-in have to come out of the cabinetry to be worked on?

Almost never. It is built to be serviced where it stands: the condenser is reached through the grille at floor level and both sealed systems are laid out for access from the front. Pulling one out risks the cabinetry, the flooring and, on a panel-ready column, a custom front worth more than the repair. If one genuinely must be moved, you hear why first.

What actually happens on the visit, and when do I hear a number?

Airflow and the condenser first, including whether a soffit or later cabinet run closed off the heat path on a built-in retrofitted into an older Poway kitchen. Then evaporator fan draw, the coil, defrost heater continuity, thermistor resistance against the figures published for that model, gasket pull, cabinet temperature by probe. The number for parts and labor comes last, agreed before anything is fitted.

What parts do you fit, and will mine be on the van?

Factory-approved parts, not pattern copies. A generic evaporator fan or thermistor will usually run, and be back on the fault list within a season, which on a unit built into cabinetry means paying for the same visit twice. Whether yours is on board depends on the model number you read out on the call, since that string names the control board generation and evaporator layout.

Is the repair covered afterwards, and what if the appliance is still under factory warranty?

Repairs carry a warranty on both the parts supplied and the labor to fit them, and the terms are explained on the visit before you agree to the work. If the appliance is young enough to still sit inside the manufacturer's own coverage, ring them before you ring us: coverage on the sealed system in particular tends to depend on who opens it.

The built-in is getting on in years. Repair or replace?

Repair, nearly always. Replacing a built-in means matching a cabinet opening, a grille height and often a custom panel, which turns an appliance purchase into a cabinetry job. What actually fails out here is ordinary parts: evaporator fan, defrost heater, thermistor, door gasket, ice maker module, condenser fan. Where a cabinet genuinely is not worth the work, you hear that on the visit.
